Where to find ingredients
In Pakistan, minced meat, garlic, onions, eggs, carrots and parsley are available from butcher shops, vegetable stalls and supermarket fresh sections. Parmesan, mozzarella, sliced ham, olives, oregano and aluminium foil are usually found in larger supermarkets, deli counters or imported grocery aisles; if ham is not suitable or available, use a clearly labelled substitute such as smoked chicken slices while keeping ham as the original ingredient.
Preparation method
- Place the minced meat in a large bowl
- Add the garlic and chopped onion
- Mix in the lightly beaten eggs and grated Parmesan cheese
- Season with salt, oregano, parsley and pepper
- Mix everything very well
- Add the wheat flour gradually and knead with your hands until you have an even mixture
- Open out the meat mixture on a sheet of aluminium foil lightly greased with oil
- Cover the opened meat with the slices of ham and mozzarella
- Spread the carrot, boiled eggs, olives and sliced onion over the top
- Roll up the meat with the help of the aluminium foil, shaping it into a roll
- Transfer the roll to a rectangular baking tray
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25 minutes
Observations
This recipe works beautifully for lunch or dinner when you want something hearty without making the method complicated. The meat stays juicy, the filling adds plenty of flavour, and the baked roll slices neatly for serving.
