Where to find ingredients
Look for the ingredients in the spirits aisle, produce section, and spice shelf at your local supermarket or grocery store. If cachaça is hard to find, a sugarcane spirit sold at specialty liquor stores can be used as a substitute, but cachaça is the ideal choice.
Preparation method
- In a large pot, add the sugar, orange peels, lemon peels, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon sticks
- Set over medium heat and stir occasionally until the sugar starts to melt and lightly caramelize
- Carefully add the cachaça and water to the pot
- Mix well to dissolve the caramel
- Let the drink cook over medium heat for about 20 to 25 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend
- After cooking, strain the liquid to remove the spices and peels
- Add the chopped apple to the strained quentão
- If desired, keep warm over low heat before serving
