2 tablespoons sugar (for the caramel)
3 stale bread rolls
500 ml milk
3 whole eggs
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon lemon zest

Preparation method

  1. Prepare the caramel by melting the 2 tablespoons of sugar in a large mold with a central hole
  2. Spread the caramel well over the bottom and sides of the mold
  3. Cut the bread rolls into slices approximately 2 cm thick
  4. Arrange the bread slices on the bottom of the caramel-lined mold
  5. Blend the milk with the eggs and 2 cups of sugar in a blender until a homogeneous mixture is obtained
  6. Incorporate the lemon zest into the liquid
  7. Pour the mixture over the bread pieces in the mold
  8. Bake in a preheated oven in a water bath for 30 minutes
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before carefully unmolding
