2 tablespoons sugar (for the caramel)
3 stale bread rolls
500 ml milk
3 large eggs
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon lemon zest

Preparation method

  1. Prepare the caramel by melting the 2 tablespoons of sugar in a large bundt pan
  2. Spread the caramel evenly over the bottom and sides of the pan
  3. Slice the bread rolls into approximately 2 cm thick pieces
  4. Arrange the bread slices in the bottom of the caramel-lined pan
  5. In a blender, combine the milk, eggs, and 2 cups of sugar until smooth
  6. Stir the lemon zest into the mixture
  7. Pour the mixture over the bread pieces in the pan
  8. Bake in a preheated oven in a water bath for 30 minutes
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before carefully inverting onto a serving plate
