Ingredients
1 packet of unflavored powdered gelatin
6 tablespoons of cold water
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 can of whole milk (use the empty condensed milk can as a measure)
2 containers of plain yogurt
6 medium red guavas
1/2 cup of sugar
1 1/2 cups of water (for the syrup)
1/2 cup of water (optional, for the syrup)
6 tablespoons of cold water
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 can of whole milk (use the empty condensed milk can as a measure)
2 containers of plain yogurt
6 medium red guavas
1/2 cup of sugar
1 1/2 cups of water (for the syrup)
1/2 cup of water (optional, for the syrup)
Where to find ingredients
You can find dairy products like plain yogurt, sweetened condensed milk, and fresh guavas at any local supermarket, grocery store, or municipal market. If fresh red guavas are unavailable, high-quality guava paste thinned with water can serve as a suitable substitute.
Preparation method
- Hydrate the powdered gelatin in 6 tablespoons of cold water.
- Place the hydrated gelatin in a bain-marie until it is completely dissolved.
- In a blender, blend the sweetened condensed milk, milk, plain yogurt, and the dissolved gelatin.
- Pour the cream into a ring-shaped mold previously dampened with water.
- Refrigerate for approximately 4 hours, or until the flan is firm.
- While the flan is chilling, prepare the syrup: peel and cut the guavas into cubes.
- Place the guava cubes in a saucepan with the sugar and 1 1/2 cups of water.
- Cook over low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the guavas are very soft and beginning to break down.
- Remove the pan from the heat and transfer the contents to a blender. Blend until you obtain a smooth puree.
- Return the guava puree to the pan and cook over low heat for another 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the syrup thickens.
- If the syrup becomes too thick during cooking, add the remaining optional 1/2 cup of water to adjust the consistency.
- Let the guava syrup cool completely before serving over the flan.
