1/2 tsp salt
2 cups boiling water
1/2 onion, finely diced
1 bay leaf
1 cup long-grain white rice
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups boiling water
Where to find ingredients
Find these pantry staples at local markets or supermarkets in the grain and vegetable aisles. For the best results, use high-quality long-grain white rice.
Preparation method
- Dice the onion into very small cubes.
- Bring the water to a boil.
- Place a medium saucepan over low heat.
- Add the olive oil and the diced onion.
- Add a pinch of salt.
- Sauté the onion for 2 minutes until it becomes soft and translucent.
- Add the bay leaf to the sautéed base.
- Add the rice and stir for 1 minute to ensure the grains are well coated with the oil.
- Pour the boiling water over the rice.
- Season with the remaining salt and stir gently.
- Increase the heat to medium.
- Do not stir the rice again from this point on.
- Wait until the water level reaches the surface of the rice grains.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot partially with the lid.
- Cook until you notice that all the water has been fully absorbed.
- Test the doneness by inserting a fork to push aside the grains at the bottom of the pot.
- Keep it on the heat for a few extra moments if there is still any moisture left.
- Turn off the heat and keep the pan covered for 5 minutes so the trapped steam finishes the cooking process.
- Fluff the grains delicately with a fork before serving.
