Where to find ingredients
Cooked beans are a staple in many households and are often leftover from previous meals. Onions, garlic, bell peppers, cabbage, eggs, bacon, oregano, black pepper, salt, and vinegar are commonly found in the fresh produce and pantry sections of most supermarkets. Liquid sweetener can usually be found in the baking or health food aisles. For specific Brazilian ingredients or if you want a wider variety, check Latin or Brazilian specialty stores, or the international foods aisle of larger supermarkets.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, fry the chopped steak with garlic, onion, and bacon until golden
- Add the chopped bell pepper and sauté for another minute
- Add the cooked beans, chopped cabbage, water (enough to lightly cover ingredients), salt, black pepper, oregano, vinegar, and sweetener
- Cook over medium heat until the cabbage is tender
- With the salad still boiling, crack the egg directly into the pan
- Vigorously stir with a fork or whisk until the egg is cooked and the broth thickens slightly
- Taste and adjust seasonings, if necessary
