Where to find ingredients
Look for the noodles, soy sauce, cornflour, stock cubes and prepared yakisoba sauce in the noodles, sauces and Asian ingredients aisles at supermarkets or neighbourhood grocers. Fresh vegetables and beef are best bought from the produce and meat sections; if needed, a mushroom substitute can be found in the fresh mushroom section.
Preparation method
- Cook the No. 8 spaghetti in boiling salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside
- Prepare the vegetables: cook the carrot, capsicum, onion and Japanese broccoli in a covered pan with 1/2 cup water and the dissolved vegetable stock cube. Cook until tender but still crisp
- Season the beef strips with salt only
- In a frying pan or saucepan, heat a little vegetable oil, if using, and brown the beef strips
- Add the browned beef to the cooked vegetables
- Prepare the sauce: in another saucepan, mix the ready-made yakisoba sauce, soy sauce, sunflower oil and the 500 ml water
- Dissolve the cornflour in a little cold water and add it to the sauce pan. Add the beef stock cube as well
- Bring the mixture to medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens
- Add the thickened sauce to the pan with the beef and vegetables. Mix well and let it boil for a few minutes, stirring occasionally
- If desired, add sliced button mushrooms
- Serve the sauce with the beef and vegetables over the cooked spaghetti
