Easy Gratinated Cauliflower (Couve-flor gratinada)

Ingredients

1 medium cauliflower
2 1/2 cups milk
2 level tablespoons wheat flour
3 egg yolks
1 tablespoon butter
4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon breadcrumbs
Salt to taste

Where to find ingredients

Find the ingredients in the fresh produce section, the dairy aisle, the baking aisle, and the seasoning shelves at local supermarkets or neighbourhood markets. If needed, use a mild hard cheese in place of Parmesan as a substitute, keeping the original ingredient as ideal.

Preparation method

  1. Cook the cauliflower in salted water, without letting it get too soft
  2. In a bowl, mix the milk, wheat flour and sifted egg yolks
  3. Season with salt and place the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens
  4. Remove the cream from the heat and stir in the butter and 3 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese
  5. Mix well and set aside
  6. Arrange the cooked cauliflower in a buttered baking dish
  7. Cover the cauliflower with the prepared cream
  8. Sprinkle with the remaining grated Parmesan cheese and the breadcrumbs
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at high temperature until gratinated
  10. Serve straight from the baking dish
