Where to find ingredients
Find fresh minced beef, green beans, and everyday pantry staples like onions, garlic, olive oil, and spices at local neighborhood markets, open-air markets, or supermarket fresh produce and butchery sections across Nigeria.
Preparation method
- Take the meat out of the fridge a little beforehand so it reaches room temperature
- Put the water on to simmer over low heat
- Wash the green beans thoroughly
- Trim the ends and cut them into 1.5 cm pieces using a diagonal cut
- Dice the onion into 1 cm cubes
- Peel and finely mince the garlic
- Heat a large pan or skillet over medium heat
- Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and spread the meat in small portions across the pan
- Let the meat brown without stirring for 1 minute
- Season with salt, pepper, and dust the all-purpose flour over the meat
- Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally so the pieces break apart and brown evenly
- Transfer the browned meat to a bowl and set aside
- Keep the pan on the heat and add the remaining olive oil and the onion
- Add a pinch of salt and sauté the onion for 2 minutes until softened
- Add the green beans to the pan
- Season with salt and pepper and sauté for 2 minutes until lightly browned, keeping a crisp texture
- Add the garlic, paprika, and cumin
- Sauté for 1 more minute until the spices release their aroma
- Pour in the warm water gradually while scraping the bottom of the pan with a spatula
- Return the minced beef to the pan
- Cook for another 2 minutes until the sauce thickens
- Serve immediately
Observations
This dish is an excellent option for daily meals, balancing the protein of the beef with the crunch and freshness of the green beans. Follow the instructions to ensure the beef browns perfectly before folding in the vegetables.
