Ingredients

1 packet of spaghetti (No. 8 or similar)
500g beef strips (or protein of your choice)
Salt to taste
1 head of broccoli, chopped into florets
1 carrot, sliced into medium rounds
1 bell pepper, sliced into medium strips
1 onion, sliced into medium strips
1 vegetable stock cube
125ml water (for steaming vegetables)
Vegetable oil (optional, for searing)
500ml prepared Yakisoba sauce
5 tbsp soy sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)
500ml water (for the sauce)
1 tbsp sunflower oil (for the sauce)
2 tbsp cornflour
1 beef stock cube
Sliced mushrooms to taste (optional)

Where to find ingredients

You can find all ingredients at local supermarkets such as Countdown, New World, or Pak'nSave. Look for 'Yakisoba sauce' in the international aisle; if unavailable, a blend of oyster sauce and soy sauce serves as a common substitute.

Preparation method

  1. Boil the spaghetti in salted water until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. Place the carrots, bell pepper, onion, and broccoli in a pot with the 125ml of water and the crumbled vegetable stock cube. Cover and steam until tender yet crisp.
  3. Season the beef strips lightly with salt.
  4. Heat a drizzle of vegetable oil in a pan or wok and sear the beef strips until browned.
  5. Combine the browned beef with the cooked vegetables.
  6. For the sauce, mix the prepared Yakisoba sauce, soy sauce, sunflower oil, and the 500ml of water in a separate saucepan.
  7. Dissolve the cornflour in a little cold water and stir it into the sauce mixture along with the crumbled beef stock cube.
  8. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens.
  9. Pour the thickened sauce over the pan containing the beef and vegetables, mixing well, and simmer for a few minutes.
  10. If using, stir in the sliced mushrooms.
  11. Serve the beef and vegetable stir-fry over the cooked spaghetti.
