1 bay leaf
1 cup long-grain rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups boiling water
1/2 onion, finely diced
1 bay leaf
1 cup long-grain rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups boiling water
Where to find ingredients
Find long-grain rice, fresh produce, and pantry staples like olive oil and salt at local markets or grocery stores, typically found in the dry goods or produce aisles.
Preparation method
- Finely dice the onion into small cubes.
- Heat the water until it reaches a rolling boil.
- Place a medium saucepan over low heat.
- Add the olive oil and the diced onion.
- Add a pinch of salt to the onion.
- Sauté the onion for 2 minutes until it becomes tender.
- Add the bay leaf to the aromatic base.
- Stir in the rice and sauté for 1 minute, ensuring all grains are well coated with the oil.
- Pour the boiling water over the rice.
- Add the remaining salt and stir gently once.
- Increase the heat to medium.
- Do not stir the rice again from this point on.
- Wait until the water level drops to meet the surface of the grains.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan partially with the lid.
- Cook until all the water has been absorbed.
- Test for doneness by inserting a fork to push aside the grains at the bottom of the pan.
- Leave on the heat for a few more moments if any moisture remains.
- Turn off the heat and keep the pan covered for 5 minutes, allowing the steam to finish the cooking process.
- Fluff the grains delicately with a fork before serving.
