Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk and unsalted butter are widely available in the dairy or baking aisles of most supermarkets. Fresh coconut can often be found in the produce section of larger supermarkets, Latin American or Asian markets, or at local farmers' markets. If fresh coconut is unavailable, you can substitute with desiccated coconut (unsweetened), adjusting the quantity as needed and ensuring it's well-hydrated during cooking. Crystal sugar is usually found in the baking aisle. Whole cloves are typically found in the spice aisle of supermarkets.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, combine the condensed milk, butter, and grated fresh coconut
- Place the saucepan over low to medium heat
- Cook, stirring constantly, for about 15 minutes, until the mixture detaches from the bottom of the pan, forming a thick cream
- Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer it to a plate or serving dish
- Let it cool until lukewarm
- Grease your hands lightly with butter
- Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into small balls
- Roll the shaped beijinhos in crystal sugar
- Decorate each beijinho with a whole clove
