2 cans condensed milk
300 g unsalted butter
2 cups finely grated fresh coconut
Granulated sugar for rolling
Whole cloves for garnish

2 cups finely grated fresh coconut
Granulated sugar for rolling
Whole cloves for garnish
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk and unsalted butter are widely available in the dairy or baking sections of most supermarkets. Fresh coconut can be found in Latin American markets, specialty international food stores, or sometimes in the produce section of larger supermarkets. If fresh coconut is unavailable, unsweetened shredded coconut can be substituted, though the texture and flavor will be slightly different. Granulated sugar is a pantry staple. Whole cloves are typically found in the spice aisle of supermarkets.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, combine the condensed milk, butter, and grated fresh coconut
- Place the saucepan over low to medium heat
- Cook, stirring constantly, for about 15 minutes, until the mixture pulls away from the bottom of the pan, forming a thick cream
- Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer to a plate or dish
- Let it cool until lukewarm
- Grease your hands with a little butter
- Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into balls
- Roll the shaped beijinhos in granulated sugar
- Decorate each beijinho with a whole clove
