Where to find ingredients
You can find all ingredients at local supermarkets, typically in the produce aisle for fresh vegetables and in the international foods section for soy sauce and specific Asian-style sauces. Cornflour and basic staples are found in the baking or dry goods aisles.
Preparation method
- Boil the spaghetti in salted water until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- Prepare the vegetables: steam the carrot, bell pepper, onion, and Japanese broccoli in a covered pan with 120ml of water and the crumbled vegetable stock cube until they are tender yet remain crisp.
- Season the beef strips lightly with salt.
- Heat a splash of vegetable oil in a frying pan or wok and sear the beef strips until browned.
- Combine the browned beef with the cooked vegetables.
- To make the sauce, mix the ready-made yakissoba sauce, soy sauce, sunflower oil, and 500ml of water in a separate saucepan.
- Dissolve the cornflour in a little cold water and stir it into the sauce pan along with the beef stock cube.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Pour the thickened sauce over the pan with the meat and vegetables, stir thoroughly, and let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Add the sliced mushrooms if using.
- Serve the meat and vegetable mixture generously over the cooked spaghetti.
