Brown Rice in the Pressure Cooker

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 onion
1 bay leaf
1 whole clove
1 cup long-grain brown rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups boiling water

Where to find ingredients

Olive oil, onions, bay leaves, whole cloves, brown rice, salt, and water can be found at most grocery stores and supermarkets. Check the spice aisle for bay leaves and whole cloves, and the grains or rice aisle for brown rice.

Preparation method

  1. Keep half the onion whole
  2. Fix the bay leaf onto the onion using the whole clove as a support
  3. Heat the pressure cooker over medium heat without the lid
  4. Add the olive oil, the prepared onion, and the rice
  5. Season with salt
  6. Sauté the grains for 1 minute, coating them in the oil
  7. Pour in the boiling water and mix well
  8. Close the pressure cooker and increase the stove heat
  9. As soon as the cooker reaches pressure and starts to hiss, lower the heat
  10. Cook for 15 minutes
  11. Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally before opening the lid
  12. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve immediately

Observations

Using a pressure cooker drastically reduces the cooking time for brown rice. This technique results in a perfect and flavorful side dish, maintaining the grain's properties in a practical way for everyday meals.
