4 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons cornflour
Ground cinnamon for dusting
Where to find ingredients
You can find all these pantry staples in any local New Zealand supermarket like Countdown, Pak'nSave, or New World. For 'trim milk', look in the dairy fridge section. Sweetened condensed milk is found in the baking aisle. Cornflour is also in the baking aisle, usually near the flours. For a high-quality cocoa powder, check the baking section or the tea and coffee aisle; any standard Dutch-processed cocoa powder will work perfectly for this recipe.
Preparation method
- Combine all ingredients, except the cinnamon, in a blender
- Blitz until the mixture is completely smooth and well combined
- Pour the liquid into a medium-sized saucepan
- Cook over medium heat

- Pour the drink into your favourite mugs
- Finish by dusting a little ground cinnamon over the top
- If you're feeling fancy, top it off with a dollop of whipped cream
Observations
On a chilly day, there's nothing better than a proper, thick hot chocolate to warm you up. This recipe gets its signature silky finish from a touch of cornflour, giving it a rich, decadent consistency that feels like a real treat.
