Easy and Delicious Brazilian Yakisoba

Ingredients

1 package spaghetti noodles (nº 8)
500 g meat cut into strips (your choice)
Salt to taste
1 bunch Japanese broccoli
1 carrot sliced into medium rounds
1 bell pepper sliced into medium strips
1 onion sliced into medium strips
1 vegetable bouillon cube
1/2 cup water (for cooking vegetables)
Vegetable oil (optional, for frying meat)
500 ml prepared Yakisoba sauce
5 tablespoons soy sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)
500 ml water (for sauce)
1 tablespoon sunflower oil (for sauce)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 beef bouillon cube
Mushrooms to taste (optional)

Where to find ingredients

Spaghetti noodles can be found in the pasta aisle of most supermarkets. Japanese broccoli (also known as broccolini) is often available in the produce section of larger supermarkets or Asian markets. Carrots, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms are standard produce items found in any grocery store. Meat for stir-fry can be purchased pre-cut or cut yourself from larger cuts like sirloin, flank steak, or chicken breast in the meat department. Vegetable and beef bouillon cubes are typically found in the soup or seasoning aisle. Soy sauce is a common international ingredient found in most supermarkets. Cornstarch is usually in the baking aisle. Yakisoba sauce is often found in the international foods aisle, sometimes with Asian ingredients, or at specialty Asian or import food stores. If Yakisoba sauce is unavailable, you can create a similar flavor profile by combining additional soy sauce, oyster sauce, a touch of sugar or honey, and a splash of rice vinegar.

Preparation method

  1. Cook the spaghetti noodles in boiling salted water until al dente
  2. Drain and set aside
  3. Prepare the vegetables: cook the carrot, bell pepper, onion, and Japanese broccoli in a covered pot with 1/2 cup of water and the dissolved vegetable bouillon cube
  4. Cook until tender but still crisp
  5. Season the meat strips with salt only
  6. In a skillet or pan, heat a little vegetable oil (if using) and brown the meat strips
  7. Add the browned meat to the cooked vegetables
  8. Prepare the sauce: in another pot, mix the prepared Yakisoba sauce, soy sauce, sunflower oil, and 500 ml of water
  9. Dissolve the cornstarch in a little cold water and add it to the sauce pot
  10. Also add the beef bouillon cube
  11. Bring the mixture to medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens
  12. Add the thickened sauce to the pot with the meat and vegetables
  13. Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally
  14. If desired, add sliced mushrooms
  15. Serve the sauce with the meat and vegetables over the cooked noodles
