Where to find ingredients
Most ingredients can be found in the produce aisle of your local supermarket. Japanese broccoli (also known as broccolini) is widely available. Specialty Asian markets or the international foods section of larger supermarkets may carry a wider variety of Asian vegetables. The yakisoba sauce and soy sauce are typically found in the international aisle or Asian foods section. If you can't find prepared yakisoba sauce, you can make a similar sauce using soy sauce, oyster sauce, a touch of sugar or honey, and cornstarch as a thickener. Cornstarch is a common baking ingredient. Beef and vegetable bouillon cubes are usually located in the soup or seasoning aisle.
Preparation method
- Cook the spaghetti noodles in boiling salted water until al dente
- Drain and set aside
- Prepare the vegetables: cook the carrot, bell pepper, onion, and Japanese broccoli in a closed pot with 1/2 cup of water and the dissolved vegetable bouillon cube
- Cook until tender but still crisp
- Season the meat strips with salt only
- In a skillet or pot, heat a little vegetable oil (if using) and brown the meat strips
- Add the browned meat to the cooked vegetables
- Prepare the sauce: in another pot, mix the prepared yakisoba sauce, soy sauce, sunflower oil, and 500 ml of water
- Dissolve the cornstarch in a little cold water and add to the sauce pot
- Also add the beef bouillon cube
- Bring the mixture to medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens
- Add the thickened sauce to the pot with the meat and vegetables
- Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally
- If desired, add sliced mushrooms
- Serve the sauce with meat and vegetables over the cooked noodles
