Ingredients
2 cans (300g each) condensed milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
300g finely grated fresh coconut
Crystal sugar for rolling
Whole cloves for decoration
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
300g finely grated fresh coconut
Crystal sugar for rolling
Whole cloves for decoration
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk and unsalted butter are common staples found in the dairy or baking aisle of most supermarkets. Finely grated fresh coconut can often be found in the produce section of larger supermarkets or in Latin or Asian markets. If fresh coconut is unavailable, unsweetened shredded coconut from the baking aisle can be used as a substitute, though the texture will be slightly different. Crystal sugar is available in the baking aisle, often labeled as coarse sugar or sanding sugar. Whole cloves can be found in the spice aisle of any supermarket.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, combine the condensed milk, butter, and grated fresh coconut
- Place the saucepan over low to medium heat
- Cook, stirring constantly, for about 15 minutes, until the mixture pulls away from the bottom of the pan, forming a thick cream
- Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer it to a plate or dish
- Let it cool until lukewarm
- Grease your hands with a little butter
- Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into small balls
- Roll the shaped Beijinhos in crystal sugar
- Decorate each Beijinho with a whole clove
