Where to find ingredients
Potatoes, all-purpose flour, salt, ground beef, onion, olive oil, tomato sauce, and shredded cheese are commonly available at most supermarkets in the produce, baking, meat, and dairy sections respectively. Beef bouillon cubes can be found in the international foods aisle or the soup and broth section of larger supermarkets. For a wider selection of specific ingredients or for authentic Brazilian food products, check Latin or Brazilian specialty markets, which are often found in larger urban areas. Online grocery stores and international food retailers also offer a good selection.
Preparation method
- Cook the potatoes in water until tender
- Peel the potatoes and pass them through a potato ricer while still warm
- Gradually add the flour and salt, kneading well until you obtain a homogeneous dough
- Place the dough on a floured surface and shape it into rolls
- Cut each roll into pieces of approximately 2 cm
- In a large pot, boil plenty of salted water
- When the water boils, add the gnocchi a few at a time, waiting for them to float to the surface
- Prepare a basin with cold water and a colander
- Remove the cooked gnocchi with a slotted spoon and place them in the colander for a thermal shock
- Repeat the process until all the dough is cooked
- Drain the gnocchi well and set aside in a baking dish
- Chop the onion very finely and sauté in a pan with olive oil
- Add the ground beef and beef bouillon cubes to the sautéed onion
- Stir well and, after the meat is cooked, add the tomato sauce
- Let the sauce cook for another 4 minutes
- Pour the meat sauce over the reserved gnocchi
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top
- Bake until golden and bubbly
- Serve hot
