Candy Apples

Ingredients

1 kg sugar
500 ml water
1 tablespoon vinegar
Red food coloring (powder or liquid)
12 apples (small/medium)

Where to find ingredients

You can find these items at any local supermarket, grocery store, or specialized baking supply shop for food coloring.

Preparation

  1. Preparing the Apples:
  2. Wash and dry the apples
  3. Insert 1 or 2 sticks into each apple to ensure they are stable while dipping
  4. Lightly grease aluminum pans or trays with oil
  5. Making the Syrup:
  6. Combine all ingredients in a pot
  7. Do not use a spoon or utensil as it may cause the sugar to crystallize
  8. Mix only by gently shaking or swirling the pot
  9. Use high heat until it begins to boil
  10. Lower the heat to medium once boiling and cook for approximately 25 minutes
  11. Dip the tip of a popsicle stick into the syrup and drop it onto the greased tray to test
  12. Press with your finger once it cools for a few seconds
  13. If the drop makes a solid sound when tapped against the tray, turn off the heat immediately
  14. Begin dipping the apples and place them onto the prepared tray to set

Notes

It is important to work quickly as the sugar syrup will naturally harden as it cools.
