Ingredients
1 can (395 g) condensed milk
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk can be found in most grocery stores in the dairy or baking aisle. Ensure the can is a type specifically designed for pressure cooking, with no added sugars or preservatives if possible.
Preparation method
- Remove the paper label from the condensed milk can
- With a small knife, remove any glue residue to avoid clogging the pressure cooker valve
- Place the condensed milk can inside the pressure cooker
- Add water to the pot to cover the can, leaving about two fingers of water above it
- Close the pressure cooker and place it over medium heat
- As soon as the cooker starts to whistle (hiss), reduce the heat if necessary and cook for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and wait for the steam to release naturally
- Do not force the steam out
- When all the pressure has escaped, carefully open the lid of the pot
- Use tongs to remove the hot can from the pot, avoiding burns
- Let the can cool completely for at least 2 hours before opening
- For best results, prepare the dulce de leche the day before consumption
