Where to find ingredients
Ingredients can be found at most supermarkets and grocery stores. Butter, sugar, eggs, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and heavy cream are standard pantry staples. Carbonated cola beverage is widely available.
Preparation method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F)
- In a large bowl, beat the sugar with the butter until you get a light and fluffy cream
- Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites
- Reserve the egg whites
- Add the egg yolks to the butter and sugar cream and beat well until incorporated
- Add the Coca-Cola to the mixture, alternating with the dry ingredients (flour and cocoa powder), beating constantly
- Add the baking powder and mix gently
- Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form
- Gently fold the stiff egg whites into the cake batter from bottom to top to avoid losing air
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured round cake pan with a central hole
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
- While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting: in a saucepan, mix the heavy cream, 3 tablespoons of sugar, butter, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the frosting thickens slightly
- Remove the cake from the oven, let it cool slightly, and then unmold it
- Cover the still-warm cake with the prepared frosting
