Where to find ingredients
Cooked beans (leftovers) are a great way to reduce waste. Bacon can be found in the bacon or cured meats section of most supermarkets. Steak is available at any butcher shop or supermarket meat counter. Onions, garlic, bell peppers, cabbage, eggs, oregano, black pepper, salt, vinegar, and liquid sweetener are standard grocery items found in the produce, spice, and baking aisles of supermarkets.
Preparation method
- In a pot, fry the chopped steak with garlic, onion, and bacon until golden
- Add the chopped bell pepper and sauté for another minute
- Add the cooked beans, chopped cabbage, water (enough to lightly cover the ingredients), salt, black pepper, oregano, vinegar, and sweetener
- Cook over medium heat until the cabbage is tender
- While the salad is still boiling, crack the egg directly into the pot
- Stir vigorously with a fork or whisk until the egg is cooked and the broth thickens slightly
- Taste and adjust seasonings, if necessary
- Serve hot
