Easy Homemade Dutch Pie: A Delicious Treat

Ingredients

600 ml fresh cream
1 teaspoon cassis liqueur (optional)
120 g cornstarch biscuits
10 drops vanilla essence
200 g chopped semi-sweet chocolate
250 g unsalted butter, at room temperature
80 g condensed milk
10 g butter
100 g champagne or "casadinho" type biscuits
200 g refined sugar

Where to find ingredients

Cornstarch biscuits and champagne or "casadinho" type biscuits are easily found in any supermarket, in the biscuit section.
Fresh cream can be found in the dairy section of supermarkets, usually near other creams and yogurts.
Condensed milk and unsalted butter are basic supermarket items, available in the dairy or grocery section.
Semi-sweet baking chocolate bars are found in the confectionery or baking section of supermarkets.
Refined sugar is a common grocery item, available in any supermarket.
Vanilla essence can be found in the confectionery or spice section of supermarkets.
Cassis liqueur, if using, can be found in liquor stores, supermarkets with a good alcoholic beverage section, or specialty import stores.

Preparation method

  1. In a bowl, beat the butter with the refined sugar until you obtain a light and fluffy cream
  2. Add the condensed milk and continue beating until well incorporated
  3. Incorporate the fresh cream, vanilla essence, and cassis liqueur (if using), mixing gently with a whisk or spatula until you obtain a homogeneous cream
  4. Prepare a removable-rimmed pan (approximately 18 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height), lining the sides with acetate ribbon or greasing with a little butter
  5. Line the bottom of the pan with a layer of cornstarch biscuits, breaking them if necessary to fill the gaps
  6. Pour half of the prepared cream over the layer of biscuits
  7. Make another layer with the remaining cornstarch biscuits
  8. Cover with the remaining cream
  9. Refrigerate the pie for at least 2 hours, or until firm
  10. Carefully remove the pie from the pan
  11. In a small saucepan, heat the 600 ml of cream without whey over low heat, without letting it boil
  12. Remove the pan from the heat and add the chopped semi-sweet chocolate and the 10 g of butter
  13. Stir constantly until the chocolate and butter are completely melted, forming a smooth ganache
  14. Spread the reserved chocolate ganache over the top of the pie, letting it drip down the sides
  15. Decorate the sides of the pie with the champagne or "casadinho" type biscuits, pressing lightly so they stick to the ganache
