Where to find ingredients
Sweetened condensed milk, eggs, milk, sugar, and instant coffee are widely available in the dairy and baking aisles of most supermarkets. Coffee liqueur or rum can often be found in the liquor or specialty beverage section of larger supermarkets or in liquor stores. If you can't find coffee liqueur, a good quality rum will work well as a substitute.
Preparation method
- Prepare the caramel by melting sugar directly in the flan mold over low heat
- Spread the caramel over the sides of the mold
- In a blender, add the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, milk, instant coffee, and liqueur (if using)
- Blend all ingredients until a homogeneous mixture is obtained
- Pour the mixture into the caramelized mold
- Cover the mold with aluminum foil
- Bake in a water bath in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for approximately 1 hour, or until the flan is firm
- Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool completely before refrigerating
- After chilling, unmold the flan onto a serving plate
- Serve cold
