Easy and Delicious Brazilian Yakisoba

Ingredients

1 package of spaghetti noodles, size #8
500 g of thinly sliced meat (your choice)
Salt to taste
1 bunch of Japanese broccoli
1 carrot, sliced into medium rounds
1 bell pepper, sliced into medium strips
1 onion, sliced into medium strips
1 vegetable bouillon cube
1/2 cup of water (for cooking vegetables)
Vegetable oil (optional, for frying meat)
500 ml of ready-made yakisoba sauce
5 tablespoons of soy sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)
500 ml of water (for the sauce)
1 tablespoon of sunflower oil (for the sauce)
2 tablespoons of cornstarch
1 beef bouillon cube
Mushrooms to taste (optional)

Where to find ingredients

Noodles: Supermarkets, often in the pasta aisle. Look for spaghetti #8 or similar thick spaghetti.
Meat: Any butcher shop, supermarket meat counter, or some fresh markets. Sliced thinly for stir-frying. Beef sirloin, chicken breast, or pork loin are common choices.
Japanese Broccoli (or Broccoli Rabe/Rapini): Found in the produce section of larger supermarkets, specialty Asian markets, or fresh markets.

Preparation method

  1. Cook the spaghetti noodles in boiling salted water until al dente
  2. Drain and set aside
  3. Prepare the vegetables: cook the carrot, bell pepper, onion, and Japanese broccoli in a covered pot with 1/2 cup of water and the dissolved vegetable bouillon cube
  4. Cook until tender but still crisp
  5. Season the meat strips with salt only
  6. In a frying pan or pot, heat a little vegetable oil (if using) and brown the meat strips
  7. Add the browned meat to the cooked vegetables
  8. Prepare the sauce: in another pot, mix the ready-made yakisoba sauce, soy sauce, sunflower oil, and 500 ml of water
  9. Dissolve the cornstarch in a little cold water and add it to the sauce pot
  10. Also add the beef bouillon cube
  11. Bring the mixture to medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens
  12. Add the thickened sauce to the pot with the meat and vegetables
  13. Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally
  14. If desired, add sliced mushrooms
  15. Serve the sauce with meat and vegetables over the cooked noodles
