Where to find ingredients
Sweetened condensed milk and unsalted butter are widely available in the dairy or baking aisle of any supermarket. Finely grated fresh coconut can be found in the produce section or the frozen aisle of larger supermarkets, or at Latin or Asian markets. Crystal sugar is a coarse granulated sugar, usually found in the baking aisle. Whole cloves are available in the spice aisle of most supermarkets.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, butter, and grated fresh coconut
- Place the saucepan over low to medium heat
- Cook, stirring constantly, for about 15 minutes, until the mixture detaches from the bottom of the pan, forming a thick cream
- Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer it to a plate or platter
- Let it cool to lukewarm
- Grease your hands with a little butter
- Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into balls
- Roll the shaped beijinhos in crystal sugar
- Decorate each beijinho with a whole clove
