Ingredients
2 cans condensed milk
300g unsalted butter
2 cups finely grated fresh coconut
Crystal sugar for rolling
Whole cloves for decoration
300g unsalted butter
2 cups finely grated fresh coconut
Crystal sugar for rolling
Whole cloves for decoration
Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk and unsalted butter are widely available in the dairy section of most supermarkets. Fresh coconut, if available, can be found in the produce section of larger supermarkets or specialty Latin/Brazilian markets. For grating, use the fine setting on a box grater or a food processor. Pre-shredded sweetened coconut is a common substitute, but use less sugar for rolling as it's already sweetened. Crystal sugar is available in the baking aisle. Whole cloves can be found in the spice aisle.
Preparation method
- In a saucepan, combine the condensed milk, butter, and grated fresh coconut
- Place the saucepan over low to medium heat
- Cook, stirring constantly, for about 15 minutes, until the mixture pulls away from the bottom of the pan, forming a thick cream
- Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer it to a plate or serving dish
- Let it cool until lukewarm
- Grease your hands with a little butter
- Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into small balls
- Roll the shaped beijinhos in crystal sugar
- Decorate each beijinho with a whole clove
