Where to find ingredients
Condensed milk and unsalted butter are widely available in the dairy aisle of most supermarkets. Fresh coconut can often be found in the produce section of larger supermarkets or specialty Latin/Brazilian markets. If fresh coconut is unavailable, unsweetened shredded coconut from the baking aisle can be used as a substitute, though the texture will be different. Preparation method
- In a saucepan, combine the condensed milk, butter, and grated fresh coconut
- Place the saucepan over low to medium heat
- Cook, stirring constantly, for about 15 minutes, until the mixture detaches from the bottom of the pan, forming a thick cream
- Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer it to a plate or serving dish
- Let it cool until lukewarm
- Grease your hands with a little butter
- Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into balls
- Roll the shaped beijinhos in granulated sugar
- Decorate each beijinho with a whole clove
