Easy Walnut Mousse

Ingredients

8 eggs
1 liter of milk
2 cans of sweetened condensed milk
400 grams of cocoa-based powdered drink mix
300 grams of ground walnuts
3 boxes of 200 grams of heavy cream
1 packet of unflavored gelatin, dissolved according to package instructions

Where to find ingredients

You can find milk, eggs, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream in the dairy aisle of most grocery stores. Ground walnuts and whole walnuts are typically found in the baking or bulk-bin section. Cocoa-based drink powder and unflavored gelatin packets are available in the baking or beverage aisles of standard supermarkets.

Preparation

  1. Separate the egg yolks from the whites
  2. In a cold saucepan combine the milk and the egg yolks passed through a fine-mesh sieve
  3. Add the cocoa-based powdered drink mix and the sweetened condensed milk
  4. Cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes
  5. Stir continuously until a thick cream forms
  6. Remove the pan from the heat
  7. Incorporate the ground walnuts and the heavy cream
  8. Add the dissolved unflavored gelatin
  9. Gently fold in the whipped egg whites until the mixture is homogeneous
  10. Transfer the mixture to a serving dish
  11. Place in the freezer for approximately 2 hours until it reaches a mousse consistency
  12. Monitor carefully to prevent the mixture from freezing solid
  13. Decorate the surface with whole walnuts before serving
  14. Keep the dessert in the refrigerator after serving for the first time

Notes

A practical and elegant dessert, ideal for serving after meals. The secret is to gently fold in the whipped egg whites to ensure the lightness of the mousse.
