Where to find ingredients
Fresh cheese can be found in the dairy section of most supermarkets. If you cannot find fresh cheese, mild mozzarella or a firm farmer's cheese can be used as a substitute. Ground beef and other standard ingredients like onion, garlic, parsley, salt, flour, and tomato sauce are readily available in the international or produce aisles of large supermarkets. Oregano is typically found in the spice aisle.
Preparation method
- Season the cheese cubes with oregano and set aside
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing well until you get a homogeneous dough with good consistency
- Take small portions of the meat mixture, flatten them in your palm, and place a seasoned cheese cube in the center
- Carefully close the dough, shaping and rolling to form the meatballs
- Arrange the meatballs on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for approximately 20 minutes, or until golden brown and fully cooked
- While the meatballs are baking, heat the tomato sauce
- Serve the meatballs hot, drizzled with the warmed tomato sauce
