Minas cheese can be found in the cheese section of larger supermarkets or specialty cheese shops. Guava paste (goiabada) and cream cheese are widely available in the dairy or international aisles of most supermarkets. If fresh passion fruit is unavailable, look for frozen pulp or pre-made puree in the international or freezer section of supermarkets. All-purpose flour, sugar, butter, and eggs are standard supermarket staples.
Preparation method
- In a bowl, mix the eggs and sugar well
- Add the grated Minas cheese to the mixture
- Incorporate the cream cheese and melted butter
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour and gently mix until a uniform batter is obtained
- Butter and flour the ramekins specifically for petit gâteau
- Place the prepared ramekins on a baking sheet
- Fill the ramekins with the batter, reaching a little more than halfway full
- Place a cube of guava paste in the center of each one
- Cover with the remaining batter, without reaching the top edge
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5 minutes
- Carefully remove from the oven
- Unmold immediately and serve with guava and passion fruit puree, if desired
