Where to find ingredients
Sugar, butter, eggs, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and table cream are commonly found in the baking aisle of most supermarkets. Coca-Cola is available in the beverage aisle. For imported specialty ingredients, check Latin or international food markets.
Preparation method
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
- In a large bowl, beat the sugar with the butter until you get a light and fluffy cream
- Separate the egg yolks from the whites
- Reserve the whites
- Add the egg yolks to the butter and sugar cream and beat well until incorporated
- Add the Coca-Cola to the mixture, alternating with the dry ingredients (flour and cocoa powder), beating constantly
- Add the baking powder and mix gently
- Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form
- Gently fold the stiff egg whites into the cake batter, mixing from bottom to top to avoid losing air
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured ring mold
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
- While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting: in a saucepan, combine the table cream, 3 tablespoons of sugar, butter, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the frosting thickens slightly
- Remove the cake from the oven, let it cool slightly, and unmold
- Pour the prepared frosting over the still-warm cake
