Where to find ingredients
Look for spaghetti noodles in the pasta aisle of most supermarkets. Thinly sliced meat can be found pre-cut in the meat section, or you can ask your butcher to slice it. Japanese broccoli (also known as broccolini) is usually in the produce section of larger supermarkets or specialty stores. Carrots, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms are standard produce items found in any grocery store. Vegetable and beef bouillon cubes are typically in the soup or seasoning aisle. Soy sauce and sunflower oil are widely available in the international foods aisle or general cooking oil section. Cornstarch is usually in the baking aisle. Ready-made yakisoba sauce and Worcestershire sauce can be found in the international foods aisle. For specialty ingredients or a wider selection, consider visiting Latin or Asian markets.
Preparation method
- Cook the spaghetti noodles #8 in boiling salted water until al dente
- Drain and set aside
- Prepare the vegetables: cook the carrot, bell pepper, onion, and Japanese broccoli in a covered pot with 1/2 cup water and the dissolved vegetable bouillon cube
- Cook until they are tender but still crisp
- Season the thinly sliced meat with salt only
- In a frying pan or pot, heat a little vegetable oil (if using) and brown the meat strips
- Add the browned meat to the cooked vegetables
- Prepare the sauce: in another pot, mix the ready-made yakisoba sauce, soy sauce, sunflower oil, and 500 ml water
- Dissolve the cornstarch in a little cold water and add it to the sauce pot
- Also add the beef bouillon cube
- Bring the mixture to medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens
- Add the thickened sauce to the pot with the meat and vegetables
- Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally
- If desired, add sliced mushrooms
- Serve the sauce with the meat and vegetables over the cooked noodles
