Where to find ingredients
Potatoes, all-purpose flour, salt, ground beef, onion, olive oil, tomato sauce, and grated cheese are widely available in the international foods aisle or baking section of most supermarkets. Beef bouillon cubes can be found in the soup and broth aisle of larger supermarkets or in specialty import stores. If you can't find beef bouillon cubes, you can substitute with 1 cup of low-sodium beef broth.
Preparation method
- Cook the potatoes in water until tender
- Peel the potatoes and pass them through a masher while still warm
- Add the flour gradually and salt, kneading well until you get a homogeneous dough
- Place the dough on a floured surface and shape it into rolls
- Cut each roll into pieces of approximately 2 cm
- In a large pot, boil plenty of salted water
- When the water boils, add the gnocchi a few at a time, waiting for them to float to the surface
- Prepare a bowl with cold water and a colander
- Remove the cooked gnocchi with a slotted spoon and place them in the colander for a thermal shock
- Repeat the process until all the dough is cooked
- Drain the gnocchi well and set aside in a baking dish
- Finely chop the onion and sauté in a pan with olive oil
- Add the ground beef and the beef bouillon cubes to the sauté
- Stir well and, after the meat is cooked, add the tomato sauce
- Let the sauce cook for another 4 minutes
- Pour the meat sauce over the reserved gnocchi
- Sprinkle grated cheese on top
- Bake in the oven to gratinate
- Serve hot
