Easy Homemade Potato Gnocchi

Ingredients

6 medium potatoes
1 cup all-purpose flour
Salt to taste
1/2 kg ground beef
1/2 chopped onion
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 can tomato sauce
Grated cheese to taste

Where to find ingredients

Potatoes, all-purpose flour, salt, ground beef, onion, olive oil, tomato sauce, and grated cheese are widely available in the dairy, produce, meat, and international sections of most supermarkets. Beef bouillon cubes can often be found in the soup or international aisles. For authentic Brazilian flavors, consider visiting Latin or specialty import markets where you might find a wider variety of seasonings or specific types of cheese.

Preparation method

  1. Cook the potatoes in water until tender
  2. Peel the potatoes and pass them through a potato ricer while still warm
  3. Add the all-purpose flour gradually and the salt, kneading well until you get a homogeneous dough
  4. Place the dough on a floured surface and shape it into rolls
  5. Cut each roll into pieces of approximately 2 cm
  6. In a large pot, boil plenty of water seasoned with salt
  7. When the water boils, add the gnocchi a few at a time, waiting for them to float to the surface
  8. Prepare a bowl with cold water and a colander
  9. Remove the cooked gnocchi with a slotted spoon and place them in the colander for a thermal shock
  10. Repeat the process until all the dough is cooked
  11. Drain the gnocchi well and set aside in a baking dish
  12. Finely chop the onion and sauté in a pan with olive oil
  13. Add the ground beef and the beef bouillon cubes to the sautéed onion
  14. Stir well, and after the meat is cooked, add the tomato sauce
  15. Let the sauce cook for another 4 minutes
  16. Pour the meat sauce over the reserved gnocchi
  17. Sprinkle grated cheese on top
  18. Bake in the oven to gratinate
  19. Serve hot
